Who's
Your Leader?
Avi Fertig, who
founded Writers & Co. in May 2000, is a graduate
of Brooklyn College and completed postgraduate coursework
at New York University and School of Visual Arts. His
first job as a copywriter came in the early 1990s when
New York-based Ideas Inc, a remarkably prolific boutique
agency and marketing concept incubator, hired him.
During this time, Avi had the good fortune of receiving
personal instruction from Direct Marketing legend Lois
Geller (Mason & Geller Direct Marketing), and Sal
DeVito, the ruthlessly honest (and brilliant) copywriter
and co-founder of the eponymous agency, DeVito/Verdi.
Avi learned the ropes, and built his reputation, working
on dozens of accounts (Tourneau and Perrier among these)
as a copywriter and as a marketing consultant.
An important aspect of Avi’s experience is his
time spent working client-side. These years, first as
the Marketing Director for Royal Wine Corporation, the
world's largest importer, producer and distributor of
luxury and ethnic food products, and then as the Marketing
Director for Barrie House Coffee, the largest specialty
coffee roaster on the East Coast, allow Avi to fully
appreciate the marketing and promotion process from
both sides of the fence. He has the rare capacity to
conceive wildly creative and risky ideas, while remaining
entirely pragmatic, realistic, and conscious of the
client’s true needs, goals, and budget.
Today, as the president of Writers & Co., Avi works
closely with his handpicked team of talented writers
to generate powerful, yet targeted promotional copy
for an impressively diverse community of companies,
organizations and political figures.
